The Delano Boys Summer Basketball Camp will concentrate on basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding. Small-sided games and contests, leveraging a constraints-led approach, will also be part of the camp to reinforce the skills taught throughout the summer. Age-appropriate exercises will focus on improving athletes’ coordination, agility, straight-line speed, vertical jump, and upper body strength. The sessions are scheduled before each age group’s basketball camp and designed to increase the likelihood that each participant develops a love of physical fitness. Summer Youth Basketball ClinicBasketballAges 3–5 The Summer Youth Basketball Clinic introduces young athletes to basketball through age-appropriate skill progression with a strong emphasis on fun! Participants will develop fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting in a supportive, energetic environment. The Summer Youth Basketball Clinic is designed for all ability levels and is a great way for our youngest players to build confidence and enjoy being active. Ages 3–4: Children will explore basic ball handling and basketball movements while participating in fun, engaging games that encourage running and coordination. Age 5: Participants will focus on skill development—including dribbling, shooting, and passing—during the first half of each session, followed by a guided scrimmage in the second half. What to Bring: Ages 3-4: A 22-inch basketball for each session. Ages 5-6: A 25.5-inch basketball for each session. Parent Volunteers NeededParent volunteers are essential to the success of our Summer Clinic. We will accept one volunteer for every ten participants per group. Approved volunteers will receive a refund of their child’s registration fee. All volunteer coaches must be registered and approved through the school district (see volunteer registration information). Basketball Shotmakers LeagueHS Summer Basketball CampsEntering Grades 7-12 The Basketball Shotmakers League is an opportunity for players to use their skills across a set of small-sided games that emphasize shooting, teamwork, and decision-making. Led by Delano alumni and professional basketball player, Calvin Wishart, these early evenings will develop the competitive spirit and shotmaking ability of players in 7th grade or older.
